Natural Resource Systems, LLC is a forest certification and wildlife management consulting firm based in Northeast Texas. Richard Boitnott, President of Natural Resource Systems, offers forest certification services, including consulting and training for organizations seeking to become certified to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI) forest management and fiber sourcing standards, or the SFI or Programme for Endorsement of Forest Certification® (PEFC) chain of custody standards.  Mr. Boitnott conducts third-party audits to these standards, and also conducts independent water quality Best Management Practices (BMP) assessments, and internal audits  for companies seeking a review of BMP and/or SFI compliance.

Hunting Lease Management

Natural Resource Systems manages hunting leases for private landowners. Dealing with hunting clubs and administering hunting leases can be costly and time consuming. Natural Resource Systems offers a complete hunting lease management program that allows you to receive recreational income from your land without the administrative cost and headache. You get hunting lease revenue from your land while we work with hunting clubs and handle all hunting lease administrative duties.  Our services include:

  • Executing a hunting lease agreement and providing a liability insurance program that protects the landowners interests.
  • Serve as primary hunting club customer contact. 
  • Monitor hunting club's compliance with the contract and landowner expectations.
  • Handle lessee complaints and conflicts.
  • Select customers and execute leases for unleased property.
  • Invoice customers and process payments.


The only involvement from the landowner's perspective is getting a check once a year.

Mr. Boitnott has over 40 years of experience in the forest and wildlife management business; 22 years with forest industry and 18 as a consultant. He has experience actually developing an environmental management system certified to SFI and ISO 14001 while employed in forest industry.  He is one of the leading forest certification auditors in the U.S, conducting SFI forest management and fiber sourcing audits throughout the country. His on-the-ground experience in managing an SFI program with industry combined with the many audits he has conducted throughout the country enables him to develop SFI forest management and fiber sourcing programs that are practical and grounded in reality.


He also managed a wildlife management and hunting lease program while with forest industry, and as a consultant has continued to develop wildlife management plans and manage hunting lease programs for landowners.

Qualifications

Richard Boitnott, owner of Natural Resource Systems, worked for International Paper for 22 years in a variety of forest and wildlife management positions. He managed the SFI program for a 2.1 million acre landbase, helping to develop policies, programs, and procedures to conform with the SFI and ISO 14001 environmental standards. His wildlife management experience with International Paper ranged from field to region to division staff level positions, and included:

  • Development of a leasing program on 350,000 acres of previously open land in central Louisiana.
  • Management of a commercial hunting operation in east Texas.
  • Administration of a region wildlife program with responsibility for providing a financial return from wildlife resources on 2.1 million acres of company land and developing a suite of services for 2500 hunting clubs with 30,000 customers.
  • Final position with International Paper was as Manager of Wildlife Programs on division staff. In this position he developed a strategic plan to provide a comprehensive, consistent wildlife program across the company's entire 12 million acre landbase.


As a consultant, Mr. Boitnott has combined his industry, forest certification, and wildlife management experience to form Natural Resource Systems, LLC.                                                Selected Projects

  

  • Provided consulting to the U.S. Forest Service to develop and implement environmental management systems on National Forests throughout the country. Consulting consisted of ISO 14001 training, development of internal auditor guidelines and training courses, and leading internal audits.  
  • Helped conduct two of the first four Group Tree Farm pilot certification audits.
  • Manages over 40,000 acres of hunting leases in east Texas,  Arkansas and Louisiana  
  • Consulted with Potlatch Corporation to develop a hunting lease program on company land in Minnesota.
